LAW 813 - The Rule of Law in Post Conflict Reconstruction SeminarCollege of Law 3 credit(s) Irregularly This course addresses the legal challenges faced by the international community in reconstructing societies following armed conflict or other crises. The course is divided into two sections. Part one focuses on a number of core issues, including defining and identifying the rule of law; the relationship between the law and reconstruction; the question of transitional justice and international criminal law; international human rights; protecting vulnerable populations; and regulating the security sector. In the second part, the focus moves to case studies, South Africa, Rwanda, Haiti, Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and East Timor to test some of the theoretical premises as well as stimulate debate.
