This program prepares graduates for careers in general education (grades 1-6) and in special education (all grades) to serve an increasingly diverse student population. Students develop an inclusive and anti-racist education philosophy and pedagogy while also learning to deploy digital pedagogical techniques. In addition to a breadth of liberal arts courses, students take professional courses on teaching and learning that integrate within them material on children with and without disabilities who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Supervised field experiences take place throughout the program within a variety of Syracuse-area settings. Upon program completion, students will be recommended for certification in childhood education and students with disabilities (all grades).

Student Learning Outcomes
1. Acquire knowledge of each student, and demonstrate knowledge of student development and learning to promote achievement for all students.
2. Know the content they are responsible for teaching, and plan instruction that ensures growth and achievement for all students.
3. Implement instruction that engages and challenges all students to meet or exceed the learning standards.
4. Work with all students to create a dynamic learning environment that supports achievement and growth.
5. Use multiple measures to assess and document student growth, evaluate instructional effectiveness, and modify instruction.
6. Demonstrate professional responsibility and engage relevant stakeholders to maximize student growth, development, and learning.
7. Set informed goals and strive for continuous professional growth.
Program Requirements
Program requirements include 63 credits of professional education coursework and 63 credits of liberal arts. The program requires 126 credits. In most cases, students enroll for no more than 16 credits to complete the degree in eight semesters. A 3.0 GPA is required for teacher certification.
Professional Education Requirements:
Liberal Arts Requirements
Two Courses in English (6 credits)
Two courses in English (ENG) any level, Literature (LIT) any level, or Writing (WRT) 300 level or above. Students can also take WRT 255 to fulfill three credits of this requirement.
One Course in Humanities or Social Science (3 credits)
Students can fulfill this requirement by taking a course in one of the following areas: AAS, ANT, ECN, GEO (except physical), HIS, PST, PSC, PSY, MAX, and SOC.
One Course in History (3 credits)
Students fulfill this requirement by taking three credits in HST.
Two Courses in Science (6 credits)
Students must take six credits of science from any of the following areas: AST, BIO, CHE, EAR, GEO (physical), NEU, PHY and SCI.
Liberal Arts Electives (11 credits)
Students must take 11 credits of Liberal Arts elective coursework.
Liberal Arts Minor (18 credits)
Student must choose a Liberal Arts minor that is a minimum of 18 credits.
Total credits required for degree completion = 126
